LIST OF WATERTOWN SCHOOLS

Overview of Watertown’s Public & Private Schools See List of Public and Private Schools Below The Watertown area is rich in educational possibilities. Each of the 20 schools strives to provide quality education for the students that will benefit them for a lifetime. Public support and satisfaction with the public school system has been strong throughout its history. Watertown claims the First Kindergarten and of course, one of the United States astronauts, Daniel C. Brandenstein, is a Watertown High School graduate (1961). The community approved a referendum question in November, 2008. According to the District Website, the citizens were asked to approve $22,385,000 to renovate and make additions to district elementary schools. The project would include $9.6 million at Douglas Elementary for 11 new classrooms, construction of an elevator, a new cafeteria and kitchen and a new entrance and office space; $400,000 in maintenance work at the high school; $1 million in maintenance work at Riverside Middle School; $200,000 in maintenance at Lebanon; $1.3 million in maintenance projects at Lincoln; $4.6 million in projects at Schurz including seven new classrooms, new cafeteria and kitchen; and $3.9 million of work at Webster including a new gym and interior remodeling. Schurz School principal Andy Bare said the elementary schools have been dealing with large numbers in kindergarten for the past three years. The additional classrooms will help alleviate the large number of students in classes and reduce the amount of times principals have to move students from one school to another at the start of the school year. The private schools in the area provide alternatives to parents, especially for a religious element to be included in each child's education. It is unusual for a school district the size of Watertown to have as many educational alternatives. According to recent statistics, more than 1,500 students are involved in these kinds of alternatives. It is the goal of the Educational Foundation of Watertown, Inc., to assist education and educators in both the public and private schools. The Foundation solicits grant applications from local teachers, both public and private, to help fund classroom materials or projects. Through the years the Foundation has been able to fund numerous projects, at least one in almost every school. Community donations to the Foundation are used to fund these grants. Your help would be greatly appreciated in numerous classrooms by scores of students.
